PlantPep

Making the Basic PlantPep™ Brew Concentrate

One PlantPepTM brew bag makes two gallons of liquid fertilizer for your garden. You can make another two-gallon brew with the same bag. After use, open the tea bag and spread the herbs around your outdoor garden plants or add the brew bag to you compost. Use PlanPepTM as a concentrate (see below) on houseplants or ailing plants.

  1. Pour four cups of hot water over one brew bag

  2. Let steep overnight or until the brew is cool and the color is dark brown. You now have a concentrate.

  3. After steeping, PlantPepTM is applied either diluted or full-strength, based on the need of the plant(s). See further instructions by plant type below.

Applying the PlantPep™ Brew

Select a plant category below for specific instructions:

Instructions for Annuals

  • Make the Basic Brew (see above).
  • Apply bi-weekly (every other week) during the initial growing season.
  • Once the plant is established, re-apply every three weeks.
  • Double the amount and re-apply every two weeks if the plant is stressed.

Additional tips:

During the flowering stage, an application of PlantPepTM is especially beneficial.

Instructions for Perennials

  • Make the Basic Brew (see above).
  • As soon as the plant appears in the spring, apply approx.1/2 cup of the diluted brew.
  • Re-apply every 3 weeks from June through mid-September.
  • Increase/decrease the amount applied, depending on the size of the perennial.
  • Use as a concentrate whenever the plant needs an extra boost.

Additional tips:

During the flowering stage, an application of PlantPepTM is especially beneficial. I recommend adding coffee grounds and one cup of diluted PlantPepTM  to the hole when planting either divided perennials or potted perennials.

Instructions for Vegetables

  • Make Basic Brew (see above).
  • Add up to two gallons of water to the concentrate
  • See further instructions below.

Seeds planted directly into soil:

  • Apply PlantPepTM with a watering can (fitted with a spout rose) as soon as the first set of true leaves (2nd set of leaves) appears.
  • Re-apply every 2-3 weeks until the end of the growing season.

Seedling transplanted from containers:

  • Pour approx. 1 Tablespoon of fertilizer into each hole before transplanting.
  • Re-apply every 2-3 weeks until the end of the growing season.

Additional tips:

During the flowering and fruit setting stage, applications of PlantPepTM are especially beneficial. Trials have shown that growing vegetables with PlantPepTM increases their nutrient level and yield in most gardens.

If you experience infestations of any kind, apply PlantPepTM weekly until the infestation is under control. The plant will develop new leaves from its core and outgrow the pest.

Instructions for Outdoor Container Plants

  • Make Basic Brew (see above).
  • Thoroughly water the plant, allowing water to flow out the bottom of the container.
  • After thoroughly watering, apply one cup or more of PlantPepTM brew.
  • See further instructions below.
  • Re-apply every 2-4 weeks AFTER watering, from June through mid-September.

Additional tips:

A 16-ounce, undiluted concentrate of the brew can be applied when a plant shows signs of stress after purchase the plant. Unless you bought your plant from an organic nursery, chances are that your plant has been fed with a chemical fertilizer and needs to be weaned off of that. A 16-ounce, undiluted concentrate of the brew should be applied within two weeks of plant purchase.

Instructions for Houseplants

  • Make Basic Brew (see above).
  • Thoroughly water the plant, allowing water to flow out the bottom of the container.
  • After thoroughly watering, apply 1/4 Cup or more of PlantPepTM.
  • Re-apply monthly, AFTER watering.

Additional tips:

You will often notice a positive change in a houseplant's plant health after the second feeding.

When you first start using PlantPepTM your plant will go through an adjustment period as the synthetic fertilizers from the nursery are replaced with the full-spectrum of nutrients of PlantPepTM.

A 16-ounce, undiluted concentrate of the brew can be applied when a plant shows signs of stress during the adjustment period after you bring the plant home from a nursery.

Instructions for Trees & Shrubs

We found that applying either PlantPepTM in concentrated form or diluted in two gallons of water was beneficial for planting bare-rooted shrubs and tree seedlings (24" or taller).

In my experience, trees bud out quickly in response to PlantPepTM. I recommend monthly re-application of PlantPepTM for trees and shrubs during the growing season.
